Ok guys I think it is time to give my car a bit of loving.

I am going to ge rimm scratches removed & replace el-cheapo tires with some better 17" tread.

In any case this thread is actually about my suspension and shocks. I do not know if I have the standard XR / shocks still in as the car is approaching 100k's and I am the 2nd or 3rd owner.

Anyway I find the ride to be VERY VERY hard. I have not had one person not complain when I go over a nasty bump. It literally goes through the whole car.

So what I want to do is get the stiffness eased up and to get lower suspension. I am not sure if I need 'low' or 'superlow'. I want the back and front to sit just above the wheel with a bit of space incase I go to 18".

Can anyone recommend what changes they think would best get the job done.

I might add that I dont need a performance setup.

I need something that is not harsh yet still gives me decent handling. My friends AU series 3 XR6 VCT is far far more comfortable. However he has IRS so I am thinking that contributes to the nicety of the drive. Perhaps that or his shocks unlike mine, are not stuffed.

I am thinking of just getting shocks for now if that will solve my ride issues.

'stiffness' depends alot on the profile of your tyres, your average PSI per tyre, how many if any bushes have been replaced with nylon units etc.. Age is an anti-stiffner if you know what i mean, worn shockies and springs will actually make the car bouncier so getting your 100k replacements might tighten it up even more, making a stiffer ride...
If it is that noticeable that everyone complains get the shockies professionally checked, as there must be a problem for it to be that bad, perhpas a collapsed or leaking shock??..Failing that, new tyres with a less PSi then look at replacement springs..
As a general rule, lower ride height= harsher ride...

i'd be looking at the cause of your problem before i went any lower

Trust me when you fit some nice shocks it will be firmer and better ride..It doesn't make sense ..But the shock grabes the bump and realy absorbs it..Giving much better ride and handling..Go for gas type, the more expensive are nessessary better...

Tyres with a.r less than 60 series start getting harshness through body as well...

Well my tires are getting replaced in the coming week or so..

Are there any generally accepted good all round tires?

They need to fit 17" AU2 Tickford rimms. unless I sell my rimms I guess ...

Aren't shockers designed to work on the rebound- unless they are double action?
