new DBA slotteds and now brake shudder :(

Gday, as some mite know i got a set of DBA slotted discs put in the front a few weeks back.

Now as soon as i got them there was a shudder while braking.
But as one of the weights on the rim had fallen off i figured that mite have been the cause.

Anyway, i forgot about it for a while, but now im trying to fix it.

1st i swapped the wheel to a balanced one, to se if that made a difference. No.

And I just got back from getting wheels alligned in the hope that mite help. No luck

When brakes were put on i drove like a grandma so as to bed em in properly, done it all right and still i get a shudder

Now what im wondering is is it likely i just got a set of dody disks?
Could i have warped them(even though they shuddered from day 1)?
Or is there another likely cause? Like something inthe calipers is stuffed?

The wheel bearings are fine.
Not particularly happy, as i got new disk so i wouldnt have the shudder of the old rooted ones/

Any Ideas??

Re: new DBA slotteds and now brake shudder :(

Mate that sux.

It does sound like your rotors are screwed. If it was your wheel balancing you would notice that problem all the time, not just braking.

The only other thing that I can think of is that they have not been installed correctly and the rotor is not true with the wheel.

Don't leave it though, becuase if it starts to wear unevenly you could totally screw your rotors( Not to mention rattle the crap out of you !)

I would go back to the brake mechanic and let him go for a drive with you. If he's worth his salt he'll address the problem straight away. DBA are a reputable company so if they have provided bad rotors they will replace them.

Good luck

As far as i can tell its the front left thats doing it.. well feels that way atleast

Probably worth nipping up the wheel bearings by now, Jase. Might help with the shudder too, bit of luck

What sort of pads are you using?
A mate of mine put DBA's on his BA but kept the pads from the standard brakes and he got shudder also, he replaced the pads with bendix (i think) and the shudder was gone.

Cheers

Re: new DBA slotteds and now brake shudder :(

Are the EFs set up with the wheel bearings in the disc or do the rotors just slide onto the hub like AUs etc?

The DBA slotted will always shudder or vibrate because of the slots. However, if you are describing a low frequency shudder the fact you have used old wheel bearing cups or not fitted them properly or otehr causes could be in play.

Re: new DBA slotteds and now brake shudder :(

I changed the wheel bearings. And am using Bendix Advance pads

And the shudder i get is like a warped disk shudder. If u have to brake hard n turn it gets a bit fun :(
Makes steering wheel wobble a fair bit probably a cm or so each way. Can be felt through out the car

Guy who fitted them said that maybe they werent machined straight from DBA?
Have to get them checked out, will be under warrenty anyway

btw AP this is in my EB...Should have said that at start :)

Re: new DBA slotteds and now brake shudder :(

Aren't the DBA slotted "Directional" rotors... in other words they can only be put on one side of the car because of the slots?

That might be your problem if he stuffed up with one side(or both)

Pretty sure we put them in the rite side.
They had little L and R stickers on them, so i dont think we coulda bunged that up.
And from memory, theyre the same direction as other cars ive seen with them

Ill have to take it to the shop next week sometime and have a look
