quite simply, what part would cause no rear brake lights both tail and center and roughly how much $$$ are we looking at and can you do it urself at all ?

Most likely cause is the brake light switch on the brake pedal. It is a common failure in the EF/EL.
Not very expensive for a new switch and not hard to fit it yourself.

Don't go to Ford to buy it.. $41 !! My electrician supplied and installed mine a few months ago for $20.

yer itll be the brake switch i just did mine today. its easy to DIY only took me 10 min as for prices in my town autobarn $16, autopro $12.80, repco $9.19. so obviously i went to repco and quality of it looked fine compared to genuine one i pulled out

uh huh. had it done the other day. $65 inc as well as lubing of the window winders and a fixed leak at the muffler. life goes on. thanks guys.
