roll Noisy P/S???

My Eb 2 has started making a wierd noise that I think is the power steering. At first i thought it was a brake booster vacuum leak, but the brakes work fine. The noise sounds like plumbing in a house (hydraulic), is constant, starts off low and gets worse as revs increase. I did have low p/s fluid a couple of weeks ago and had to drive to get fluid while the steering was hard. I topped up fluid and it was fine until the last few days. Does anyone know what this might be!!!

Re: Noisy P/S???

the pump is screwed due to lack of fluid.and now you need to find out where its going im tipping its a rack and pinion prob but for cost sake you should hope for a speed sensor switch soloniod which is near where the hoses go into the rack.very common prob.or a hose has gone. you need to clean it all down and determine where the leak is coming from CHEERS GREG

Re: Noisy P/S???

VenomXR - There ar'nt any leaks in p/s. Car was driven with hard steering for about fifteen minutes, but it's still working fine???. How do i test or find that the switch is faulty? And how would the rack and pinion actually have been damaged? What excactly is the noise (pump/relief valve?).

Re: Noisy P/S???

my guess is you damaged the bearings in the pump driving it for that period of time with no lubrication...

Re: Noisy P/S???

THANKS JAMES you answered that one for me. if its run out of fluid and there are no obvious leeks the fluid must be going some place like starting to fill the rack boots just cut the large zip tie that holds the boot to the rack and see if there is fluid in the boot as for the switch we can now forget about that if there are no leeks CHEERS GREG
