Power Steering Pump Q

Seeing as my power steering pump decided to chuck its guts up last night I'm up for a new one! I've had the offer of $240 for a new one- is this a good price?

$240 is about the average price steering places quote for a change over.
But in the last twelve months I've bought two secondhand ones at $40 each (to fit on different cars)
Both secondhand ones work fine.. one has done about 30,000k's, the other about 8-10,000k's.

The main problem seems to be they leak (and will affect the alternator if left to leak too long) but 300,000+k's seems to be an average life for a power steering pump if it's not abused.

If a secondhand one is dry and you see it on the car it's coming off.. low k's preferably.. $40 is a better buy, as I see it.

Re: Power Steering Pump Q

Sorry, should have mentioned my car is an EA 30th anniversiary edition. $200 for a reco is the best i can do around here :/ I'm tempted to grab one from the wreckers but I've been burnt with second hand stuff before (eg the whole fu**ing car!). Will go see what the wreckers have to offer...
