What is the correct procedure to pull out the springs & shocks to replace them.

Is there any way of doing the job without spring compressors?

remove upper shock nutand rubber bushing
undo 3 nuts and remove upper shock mount
undo 2 nuts on lower shock mount and lift out through hole in engine bay
support car on axle stands so front wheels are off the ground
remove wheels
place jack under outer lower ball joint and raise compressing suspension
bolt special ford tool p/n 5310-A to lower shock mounts on car and wind up compressing spring
unbolt 2 nuts and bolts holding lower coil spring bracket to upper control arm
let jack down so suspension drops then compressed spring and saddle can be removed
then tool can be unwound to uncompress spring
repeat for other side
installation is the reversal.

you can use at your own risk those crappy spring comressers that go on the out side of the spring but theres not enough room and dont fit safely and if they come off when your trying to lever the compressed spring out because they dont compress the spring enough, could kill if not seriously hurt you. Ive used them and never felt completely safe and there stuffed once finished as the bend and usually require shorting to fit which means you wont be able to remove them from the comressed spring safely .

You need to compress the spring unless your running 2" lowered springs. 2" springs will go in without a spring compressor. I did it 2-4 weeks ago. To get stockies out I used a big bar and popped them out, when I did my 1st XB.

I took one spring out with borrowed spring compressors.....pain in the ass things to use.

What sort of dollars does the Ford tool cost??

ha ha ... thats what me and my brother did on my car. He left the compressors at his work so we just popped them out... one took a chunk out of the wall when it flew out. the lowered ones went in easy.

I cheated and put a big rag infront so the spring would hit the rag and not bounce around damaging anything. Breaking stuff isn't good.
