I've got an 88 XF ute with a crappy old steering wheel, hence looking at an after market one.

The horn is via stalk on the side. I thought that I needed a Boss kit, but the guy trying to sell me the wheel tells me that I don't.

Has anyone made a change like this? Do I need a boss kit, can this be done easily (removal and installation).

AFAIK all sports steering wheels need a boss kit.

It is straight forward to change steering wheels. The boss kit shoud come with instructions.

The hardest part I have found is getting the old wheel off without a steering wheel puller. It can be done, just not as easily.

steering wheel pullers are useless

just take the nut off try get it off without using force

if that dont work put the nut back on abit, tap it from the back and itll come off eventually.. might take awhile

All new wheels need boss kits. If you look carefully..your old wheel and boss is a joined item...so your new wheel will be pretty useless spinning around on a spline that has no boss attached! The centre nut is 15/16's I think and removal is as stated above, puller or no puller.
