What brand springs would you people recommend for lowering a 96 EL Fairmont? What sort of shocks?

Depends on the budget dude.

King Springs are the standard for lowering really. And as for shocks well you go from Gabriels - Monroe - Koni - Bilstein with the price range.

And then there's pedders or whiteline stuff.

Kings and Monroe GTs make a nice combo for a conservative price.

I've had Monro Sensatrack and GT, Gabriel, Pedders Comfort Gas, Koni Yellow, Koni Red and KYB on my car over the last 8 years.

IMO from this experience:
1. Bilstein Rule - absolutely no question (would be well worthwhile even at twice the price!).
2. Gabriel VST are the next best (very surprising as they're probably the cheapest shocks you can get) BUT - I had problems with them lasting - this may have been a bad batch tho. As a matter of fact Gabriels are possibly a tad better even than Bilstein at high speed.
3. KYB are a competent replacement option for OEM but I probably wouldn't think of them as a performance enhancement.
4. Koni are OVER RATED and OVER PRICED!!
5. Monro Sensatrack - VOMIT!!
6. Monro GT - just like hard std shockies IMO (KYB is a better option I reckon).

King springs (comfort lows for front) and Boge shocks.

I've used King springs with Koni shocks in the past with good results in terms of both handling and ride comfort. I use Bilstein's in one of my other cars and am very happy with those too.

as for shocks, its a pretty big playing field, everyone has their own preference. Any of the brands mentioned in this thread should be OK, it just depends what youre asking from your car. If you want to do track days etc, youre better off going for a better shock, if not then there probably isnt much point spending the extra cash

Lovells are starting to make good springs again but I buy Kings because they're everywhere and top notch quality. I've fitted a bunch of Falcons with Monroe GT and at around $190 pair fronts and $90 pair rears who's gonna argue about the fact they shag out at 40,000km???

Bilstein are the duck's guts for quality and longevity but realistically the Monroe stuff is good value. Fit Sensatrac for better ride comfort (dependent on your ride height) and I highly recommend ordering your Kings springs with the 'C' suffix part number (the comfort rated spring lets the car track better on bumps etc typical of most roads).

Following my heart I'd say Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs. As the other guys said - comes down to price, and of course the destined use of the vehicle. King springs, pedders or monroe is good value for money. Have a good think about what you really want from the car and go from there - even if it means holding off for a while to get the cash together for the top gear.

Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs ,Ive had em in an Ea for 250000kms+ and still going strong there good value for the extra price

also using proper matching spring/shock combo will make all the difference
