Does anyone know what constitutes a street legal tyre in Australia? If it's DOT approved is it legal here? More specifically, would the DOT approved Khumo ECSTA V710 be street legal?

You see plenty of cars getting around with these R spec tyres. Yokohama Ao32R are the most popular.

What size wheels do you have?

My guess is no as my MT ET streets has more grooves than that and they aren't legal. The DOT approval is just for the ability to use them in a particular race class.

Yeah, I have A032R tyres on one set of rims and they are fairly good but I want something better.
The size is 275/40-17 on 17"x9.5" wheels.

What life do you get out of the AO32R's.

I've done around 2000km on the A032Rs including a couple of track days and they still look near new (probably still have 80% tread). They are the best tyre I've ever had in terms of grip but they are a little noisey on smooth bitumen.
