This topic on maximum tyre widths is an interesting topic.
I’m not looking to fit tyres on my ea for tyre size 300+, maybe 305mm if read below.
I don’t want to roll my guards or anything to do with mini-tubs, just want to leave the girls body intact - no messy plastic surgery there.
What is the widest tyre length you can fit on the front and rear without rolling the guards and not going past where the guard ends under the wheel bay. I mean, letting the tyres go up and down freely in the wheel bay and not scraping, or bumping into the guards in any way.
People are talking about 225s, 235s, and 245’s for the front; 245s, 255s, 265s, 275s, 285s, and 295s for the rear. Which of these will not touch the wheel guards and also not to touch the end of the guards inside the wheel bay for an EA GL with 2 inch lowered suspension on the right 16 inch wheel rims. I don’t want to squeeze wide tyres on the wrong (small) rim even though it can to prevent tyre roll.
What performance advantages/disadvantages will I expect with wider tyres? More petrol consumption or not? Power steering problems, and what can be done to correct it. Stress on brakes or not? Good traction in rain or not? Wide tyres ok to roll 200km/ph + ? What happens when you drive around a corner more than faster than usual and what makes the difference between a wide and standard tyre such as the 205mm.
If worth it, I will purchase tyre sets and 16 inch rims. I don’t really like the look of 15, 17 and 18 inch rims. 17 and 18 inch looks all Japanese to me.
