Whats the story with the spare wheel in the AU2/3 XR8???
I test drove an AU2 XR8 yesterday. I was very surprised when I opened the boot to see the spare wheel sitting raised up above the floor by about 2 inches.
My AU1 has the boot floor flat - the spare wheel is in exactly the same place, but it sits lower somehow. Why is the AU2 spare wheel sitting so high? It makes a big impact on the boot useability/space.
Cheers.

The question though, is whether you optioned up the extra mag wheel for the spare, because on the ford website it's like a 500 dollar option when you purchase the car
Not entirely true, my AUII comes with a space saver wheel - the 5th mag is an option. Even with the space saver, there is still a raised profile - if only very slight.

It's not shown as an option on the quote for my car, or on the invoice, nor did I actually ask for it. The 17" mags weren't even mentioned on any of the above as it was standard issue on the AUII XR8 by that stage.
Maybe I just got lucky.
Actually I often wondered what the point of having a mag in the boot was.

A little off subject, I have heard of people breaking into XR’s just to steal the mag in the boot. They do this to 4 cars, and sell them in the Trading Post.
So, maybe the mag should be there?
