where is the best place to use trolley jack

I am in the process of painting my hubs , I want to use the trolley jack to jack up both the rear wheels.Do I slip it under the diff or use the subframe behind the diff.

I place the trolley jack under the ctr of the diff and the jack stands as far along the diff on either side of the ctr as I can get them. Make sure you dont have any brake lines between jack stands and diff housing.

why don't you use the stands at the same locations as the sizzor jack?

Re: where is the best place to use trolley jack

If you read most factory Workshop Manuals the jackstand and jacking points are not the same as the where the scissor jack fits. Under the rear axles is the correct place for the jack stands and the trolley jack goes under the diff. The scissor jack is built around price and the scissor jack points for safety and convenience in occasional use.

The sill would buckle if the jack stands were put where the scissor jack goes and the axle would fall off the scissor jack if it was used under the axle (and the scissor jack would probably collapse if put under the diff). At least the scissor jack works better than the old bumper jack.
