Widest tyres on rims?

Hey, at the moment I have 6.5inch wide rims, and 185/70/R14's on the front and rear. I wanted to know what the widest tyres I could fit on there would be, my idea was the fit the 185's to the front, and put 205's on the rear, if they'd fit. My spare tyre, on the same sort of rim is a 195, which is weird, so I know they can at least be that wide. Can anyone help me?

Thanx..

I still like my Fords, but I drive an R31!

Re: Widest tyres on rims?

Recomended range is normally 185 to 215. Generally better to go for the narrower end of the range. ie 185 or 195.

than i hav 205's on the other set of rims and they look pretty cool but i would go 215's but the 205's still look fat and i think 195's r just to thin

The tyres are thin because the rims are thin.

Re: Widest tyres on rims?

You could fit a 225 on a 6.5" rim, but it'll bulge out a lot. I'd stick with a 215 to be on the safe side. Also the height of your rim will have a lot to do with it. 14" rim tyers have large sidewalls so there's plenty to flex and room for them to tuck into the small rim when putting the larger width tyers on there, this gets worse with every inch the rims get taller, because the sidewall height usually decreases as a result.

toby123: Again, i would not be running 255's on a 7.5" wide rim. I run a 255/50/16 on a 16x8" rim and I reckon its the absoloute limit for a 16" tall rim, 17 is really pushing it. I reckon you'd get far better handling using a 245.

Just like a Tsunami.
