xc suspension

hey guys. i have an xc fairmont which handles rather poorly. its lowered in the front but the suspension is still very soft im wondering if its just had the standard springs cut. the rear end seems standard other than air shocks which ive bled all the air out of because it seems to handle better and looks cooler. will this stuff the rear suspension? ive also read some where that an xf? sway bar can be put in the frount to cheeply help the handling. does any one know anything about this? cheers guys any help would be great

Re: xc suspension

A sway bar at the rear will help things... not sure about the XF one (possibly off a wagon, ute or panno, as they had leaf springs, the sedan had coils).

It might be worthwhile checking your bushes in the front end (or get a free quote from 3 seperate businesses), and possibly giving the suspension an overhaul. I'm not a big fan of air shocks, and IMO I'd replace them.

Re: xc suspension

If you're in Victoria, Go to Pedders in Bendigo. Have the rear leafs bumped out to 5 or 6 (remebering to use some thick main leafs). Have a thick-arse sway bar fitted to the rear. Ensure the front end is set with about -1.0 camber and about +4.0 castor (if you can wind in more castor, go for it... they're only tyres!).

After that, enjoy the (harsh) ride.

Re: xc suspension

Check the condition of your front shocks, fresh ones will make a huge difference if they're worn!

Re: xc suspension

I WOULD SAY the front shocks could be blown probably from cut coils or lowered springs.but either way the springs will be stiffer try bouncing on each corner of the car and get it rocking when you let go count the amount it goes up and down it should only come up once then down once and settle any more then the shocks stuffed. asfor the air shocks they only masking sagged springs and probably shagged by now with no air. xf swaybar should fit but it will need the d bushes and brackets changed is it power steering or manual ? let me know and its probably full of worn parts to
