XF Brakes Feel Weak..Dead Booster?

Hey Guys..

The brakes in my XF dont feel very effective...what i mean is that when i press down on the pedal the car takes a while to start slowing down...they dont have any "bite"...and generally feel like crap....could a stuffed booster cause that?? The pads are all new all round and are about a year old...its not a heat issue either...they feel crap all the time...could a dead booster cause it? Or is it more likely a dead master cylinder?..The booster is rusty but i doubt that would have any effect?

Thanks

Extreme

Re: XF Brakes Feel Weak..Dead Booster?

Pedal should feel pretty hard before you start the car. Once started, vacuum goes to the booster, and pedal should sink a bit. If there is no change, either booster is cactus or vacuum is not getting to the booster.

If the booster seems OK, could be master cylinder. Has this only just happened, or has it been for a long time. Also, does the car pull to one side or the other? More info may be able to help!

Re: XF Brakes Feel Weak..Dead Booster?

Its been like this for a while now...and the brakes dont pull to the left/right either...

The car has original 4 discs all round...so i suspect they are long due for replacement...along with a possible brake booster/master cylinder...

My rough estimate for this..

Discs x 4 = $120 each ($480)
Booster = $120
Master Cylinder = $200
Labour = $300

$1100 all up should fix em i think

Do you guys think this is good estimate to budget for?

Re: XF Brakes Feel Weak..Dead Booster?

replaceing all those bits seems a bit drastic seeing u havent identified the problem.
R the disks glazed up or evedence that thay have suffered from over heating.
Try taking the pads out scuffing them up on some flat concreet throw them back in the car & see if that makes a difference.
Ps all the parts above u could easly fit ur self.
