Hi,

I am trying (emphasise trying) to remove the handbrake cables so I can get the diff and rear springs out of my ute. I have struck problems with getting the cables out of the backing plates. There is a splined nut and I can't get it through the hole in the backing plate, does anyone have any tips or suggestions for me?

Peter, I think they would be similar to the cable used in the XR-XY series. These use a retainer that is a multi fingered clip that springs out when the cable is inserted into the backing plate to lock the cable in place. Apparently, the best way to get it out is to tap a ring spanner over the fingers to depress them, then tap the cable back through the plate. Good luck - hope this works!
