Hey guys,
I wanted to hear stories about the brakes on your XR6 Turbo's. I have just purchased one and I was about to order the Premium Brakes when I was chatting with a friend who suggested an alternative after-market option.
The more I hear from you guys about your brakes, the better decision I can make about mine, thanks guys.
I would deffinitely get prices on aftermarket brake upgrades....
It seemed to me that the perfomrnace brake kit offered by ford was overpriced compared to what is available elsewhere, thats why we only got standard stoppers, but will consider upgrade in due time....
If I had my time over again I'd get the upgraded brakes. They're the same as the standard brakes on the FPV range, just the calipers aren't painted. To give you an idea of aftermarket prices you'll find they're somewhere around the $3000 mark just for the fronts. Comparably, getting the Ford upgrade is *very* worthwhile
I have already cancelled my premium brake option which has allowed me to cancel the 18" rim option also. The premium brakes were only offered with a set of 5 18" rims which would add $$$ to future tyre costs. My plan was to get a second set of rims with track rubber on them which would be too costly with 18's.
I can get an aftermarket AP caliper and rotor kit for approx. $3K which is not much dearer than the Ford premium option but it is a better brake. This fits under the 17" rims saving me on my future tyre purchases. I suggest some of you look into this as a brake option, especially if you will use you car on the track and even more so if you will use it with track rubber.
The premium option does not change the size of the rear brake, it just gives grooves which do not make a big difference as the rear is only doing approx 20% of the braking work. $3K Ford premium upgrade is not as good as $3K aftermarket upgrade.
Race Brakes in Flemington are the guys to see, Brad is the expert there and I am sure he will look after you.
You shouldn't have had to get the 18's with the premium brake package, thats a load of crap. I've got the premiums on my AUII XR8 with the standard 17. Sounds like your dealer was trying to give you the run around, unless on the BA's you can only get them with the 18's?????? Someone fill me in on this.

Nope, still the same 329mm (or I think they call it 330mm) as is on the BA's. Thew only thing that has changed is that the calipers have a flat surface with Ford written on them where as on mine there is a grooved tickford wings. And both front and back have the 2 ovals in the rotor
