XR8 AU Ute

Hi everyone.

I've currently got 235/45/ZR17 Firestone Firehawk SZ50's on my AU XR8 Ute at the moment. they are almost worn out, so I will be looking at replacing them shortly. I haven't had the car for long so can't compare any other brands/types. Are they any good?

I mainly drive on dry, course bitumen (country driving) in reasonably high temperatures (NW WA). But still need wet weather performance for safety.

Tyre wear rates are important, although I could sacrifice this a bit for extra performance (safety) as long as the course bitumen doesn't chew them out too quickly.

Can't afford the S02's etc (probably wear too quickly in the heat/course roads up here anyway). So am looking around the $200-300 mark.

Any suggestions? And a guide to ball park costs? Or should I just go back with the Firestones?

Also some running pressures would be appreciated bearing in mind it is a ute and I don't really carry a load.

Not sure if you can get them in that size, but I run Nexen N2000's and am really impressed, get about 50K out of em, running at 44psi.

Latest wheels magazine has sum guff about tyres in it, and Toyo just released some new ones which are pretty good.
