My headlight switch went bad on my 2003 ford windstar. When it was switched from on to off my lights did not always turn off. I had to order the switch from ford becuase no one else has on in stock. after 2 weeks of waiting (because it is on back order with ford... my luck). I decided to take the switch apart when I discovered that it is actually a 5 position switch instead of a 3 position switch. I found out that you can turn it to the left 2 positions if you pull the knob off a little and the lights will only be on when the car is on. Daytime running lights or automatic lights... what ever you want to call them.... it temporary fixed my windstar until the switch comes it... I have been waiting a month so I though other might want to know this.
