Vehicle is a 2005 Ford Freestar with 129k miles.

Rear air stopped cooling 3 weeks ago and front ac is getting weaker by the day. Some days not cooling at all.

Compressor is turning on. I can hear it engage when I turn the AC on.

I bought a gauge and put it on the low pressure side......near the evap can.

To my surprise it read 75psi.....in the danger zone. Front what I'm reading something is clogged.

Is there anything else I can do before I take it to a mechanic?

Really? Isn't that a high pressure reading? Or is it reading that high because it need charged?

With the compressor on it should be around 30 on the low side. A/C should be done by a qualified shop with the proper equipment. If it's even slightly overcharged, it won't cool good either besides bad on the other components.

Reports I've read at Fordtrucks.com indicate don't try to fix-it yourself with after market kits. You can damage seals and compressor. My experience is that AC needs to be checked out by professionals and recharged every 5 years. Typically costs approximately $125.
