My 1998 Windstar has a multitude of problems. Door locks, side view power mirrors, ABS (FIXED), Cruise control, right rear power window vent, and last but not least when I open the sliding door all of the courtesy lights and the door ajar light stay on. I'm pretty sure it is the switch. I need to know what I have to do to get to that switch or at least how to get to the wire so I can disable it. Thanks.

Remove the center seat.
Close the side door.
Remove the door panel.
Switch is a small "Bullet" shaped thingy in bottom of latch.
Replace it or lube it with a good penetrating oil like PB Blaster.

Or unplug it and see if light is out. If not, jump connector.

OK. So today I took your advice and got to the 4 switches in the sliding door. The bottom two switches are supposed to make contact and that completes a circuit in the contact pad on the body of the van. There was a problem with one on the switches. I fixed it and now the light goes out. Success!!!
