1999 Windstar fuel issues

Van quit running. Fuel pump is not coming on. I hooked up new one to check before actually installing in tank. It does not kick on. I have checked all fuses and relays for fuel pump. All fuses are good and the relay works when switched with horn relay. Any ideas?

Thanks, David

Did you check the fuel pump inertia switch?

Are you bypassing the relay to send power to the pump? The pump only has power for a few seconds when the key is turned to run.

Re: 1999 Windstar fuel issues

Sorry for not getting back. I got it figured out that night. The ground wire for the PCM was loose. The guy we got the van from replaced the motor and apparently forgot to tighten it. Ran fine since Friday night, drove a round trip of about 135 miles on Sunday- no problems.

This morning my wife took it to school and it died on her and won't start and stay running. It idles at about 500 rpm for 5-10 seconds and dies. If you push down on the gas, it seems to stay running about 10 - 15 seconds before it dies. Any ideas?

What is the fuel pressure when it dies? Has the filter been replaced?

Re: 1999 Windstar fuel issues

Thanks for replying. I just posted a new thread while you were replying to this one.
I have not been able to look at the van yet (I have my 2 year old daughter with me). It is still sitting on the side of the road.
The filter has not been changed since I got the van a month ago, so I do not know how old the fuel filter is. As soon as I get to look at it, I will check the filter and fuel pressure.
