Question 2000 Windstar Air Conditioning

I attempted to check the coolant pressure in the A/C on my Windstar using a set of guages I have previously used on my 97 Taurus. The guage connector did not fit the low pressure valve (I think I found the right one) on the Windstar. Am I on the wrong valve, or did Ford change the fitting size? The valve I am using is the one readily visible on the passenger side of the engine, just in front of the drive belts for the alternator and water pump. The only other valve I saw is at the base of the compressor and difficult to reach. I am assuming that is the high pressure side. Am I backwards in my valve placement?
