2000 Windstar almost dead...
Hey there - I have a 2000 Windstar which I bouoght new and have been through it all with this van. Has 105,000 miles. Admittedly, I am not the greatest car maintainer or probably may not be posting here in the first place. I have changed the oil over the years between 3,000 miles on good intervals to as long as 7 or 8,000 occasionally. Anyway, I have done the P174/171 code repair to the upper intake, cleaned out the ports etc, I replaced my coil pack recently, tune-up with new plugs, wires. The van runs fine but I am having problems with burning up oil. seems that the #3 cylinder and #5 are wet with oil and I am losing the oil internally. The car is away with my son and I just checked the oil after about 3 weeks and it was low a few quarts. I got the codes read and the #3 and #5 mkisfire codes were read 0303 and 0305 I think. I pulled those plugs which were new a few months ago and yep covered wet with oil and sludge crap. I replaced both plugs and the car runs fine. So, is the van junk? CAn someone explain what is the problem? How long can it run like this? My son drives it to and from work about 20 minutes in total each day. I just hate to get rid of it now that I know all of the problems and have fixed almost everything on the van. I am no car mechanic, just a guy who can follow instructions. Thanks in advance for taking time to reply! Have a great one.
