Hi,
We own a 2000 Windstar and often get the Liftgate ajar message. Even when we slam the liftgate, the message won't go off. So---the interior lights stay on. We have tried cleaning out the track with a towel, but it doesn't seem to help.
Any suggestions?

There are 2 switches for the door ajar light on the rear hatch. One located in each latch on the sides of the gate. Try getting a good penetrating oil like PB Blaster and soak the latches down. Repeatedly open and close the door to work in the penetrant.

I know the advice is a couple years old, but I had this same problem, and WD40 did the trick!
