I have a 2002 Windstar with a 3.8L V-6 engine. The ABS and brake lights come on simultaneously while driving. Turning off the ignition and restarting clears the problem. Checked the brake fluid level which was OK. Any other possible causes for this problem? Any suggestions here would be appreciated.
Also, having trouble locating the ABS unit/module to check for possible loose connections. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I also have a 2002 Windstar with the identical problem. I took it to a dealer for diagnosis. They reported that it needed a new abs module. The bad news is that is will cost around $400 to replace (parts and labor). It is apparently not unsafe to drive as is. I am looking around for a module (the dealer price was around $300) from another source to save a little money. I will drive it for the time being.

i have a 2000 windstar that the abs comes on randomly as well i tried cleaning all of the wheel sensors but i had no luck as well i will try a abs module though and let you know if it works.

Another 2002 Windstar with the same problem, I saw in another forum that the cause may be a double ground wire, but I dont remember if it was in the brake switch or the ABS module. I will check with my mechanic later and see what happen.

Hi, I have a 1998 Windstar that also had that ABS light coming on. I changed the module and it is fine now. I drove it with the light on for about two years. The only thing you have to know is that the brakes will work like a car with no ABS. That means on a wet or slippery road you have to be careful. I changed that module about three years ago and it is still working great.

If your ABS light and brake light come on then replacing the speed control deactivation switch may solve your problem as it did for me.
