I have a question about my 2002 Windstar Compressor. The pulley on it is very wobbly and makes a loud noise. (it is not plugged in and the system has been discharged) I have a brand new compressor and was wondering since the belt has to go around this , would it hurt the new compressor to just put it on, leave it unplugged and the lines capped until next year? I am scared the pulley is going to fall apart and cause my belt to fly off.

Also is it possible to use a shorter belt and just bypass it altogether? If so does anyone know what size?

You can put the compressor on and leave the plug disconnected. Your defrost won't work as good if that A/C isn't working.

You can also buy a pulley that will replace the compressor completely and be just a dummy pulley! Putting on the new compressor would be alot better than leaving the old one on. It will wear your belt out quick!
