My 02 Windstar with 128k started making a highed pitched whirring noise between 30 - 65 miles an hour a few months ago. Motor and transmission shift fine - I noticed when this 1st happened my gas mileage on the Highway dropped from 21 mpg to 19 mpg ever since.
Have driven about 8,000 miles since this started and was wondering if anybody had any idea what this might be.
In January of this year my mechanic did tell me I was going to need struts and bearing caps and he mentioned they would just get louder.
Re: 2002 Windstar with High Pitched Whirring Noise
Struts and bearing caps would only make a noise over bumps and mostley turning the steering wheel. Have you tried to accelerate in neutral to the same RPM to see if you can hear it?
Re: 2002 Windstar with High Pitched Whirring Noise
If it sounds like in front, jack it up in front, put it on safety stands and run it to see where it's coming from. Without hearing it, it'd be hard to say what it is.
