I have a 2004 Ford Freestar and I've noticed that at speeds higher than 80 kms's per hour, there is a loud high pitched scraping/whistling metal on metal noise from the front tire areas..

It doesn't make the noise at slower speeds and there is no noise when I turn corners or anything?

doesn't appear to be any wobbling when I drive...

If I didn't hear that noise, I'd never know anything was wrong..

No engine lights, no leaks, no smells ...

HELP.......any ideas?

I tested the wheels and they don't move so I'm assuming it's not the bearings..

Hello and good day:

Have you looked at your brakes lately??? Also you may have a wheel bearing going out.

How did you Test the wheel???

Please advise further.

I lifted the vans front off the ground and pulled the tires back and forth at the 10 and 2 position (or at least tried too)...there was no movement or shifting in the tires..so I assumed the bearings were fine..

I guess I could be wrong since I know little about cars..

What I've begun to notice is that the noise stops when I apply the brakes and doesn't seem to do it when it's coolish outside (but I think that's just a coincidence)...so would that mean that the brakes are going?
