96 Aerostar Does not start

96 Aerostar V-6 3.0 Lit. Multiport EFI Mileage 110K
Was losing power and stalling (complete shut off) occasionally while driving, if stopped at red lights especially after a long highway run. Would run fine for weeks and then stall again without apparent reason. A friend suggested a failing in-tank fuel pump, replaced it. the new pump primes and it seems ok, but engine wont even start now, it cranks and no go. tried to hand spray fuel directely in trottle body, it starts and it runs as long as I keep spraing fuel, if i stop it dies, it is not getting fuel on it's own it seems. i was able to reach operating temp by spraing fuel and the engine would stay running on it's on once hot, but only at idle, if i accelerate a little it dies again. I heard these vans have an external booster pump located on the frame rail? I changed fuel filter, spark plugs etc. fuel cutoff switch is reset. What about EEC Relay, Fuel Pressure regulator? What else can i do? Please Help have no wheels. Thank you a million.

Re: 96 Aerostar Does not start

(UPDATE) 96 Aerostar Does not start
96 Aerostar V-6 3.0 Lit. Multiport EFI
(UPDATE) I changed so far: fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, PCV valve, Fuel Pressure Regulator, Air Bypass Valve, Ignition Coil, Fuel Pump Relay(s). Checked Spark OK. Fuel cutoff switch is reset. NO CHANGE. Checked if I get fuel out of pump and filter when cranking, lots of fuel coming out from both. What else can i do? Thank you a million.

Re: 96 Aerostar Does not start

First check the throttle position sensor. You can check it with a ohm meter. Make sure the change in resistance is linear as you move the center section. If it is jumpy, replace it. If the TPS checks out OK, try cleaning/replacing the idle speed control valve. Hope this helps!!
