98 Windstar power steering fluid spray

Hi,

I have a 98 Windstar 3.8L with 134,000 miles. Running good until last August. Since then we've had to replace quite a bit. Sway bar, front springs, head gaskets, intake gaskets, and now the front cover gasket. And I'm still trying to find the electrical problem that blows the fuse for the mirrors.

Latest issue is power steering fluid spraying out of the vent hole in the cap. Happened once 2 weeks ago when diagnosing the front cover leak. Happened again a couple days ago. There was a stain on the driveway and on the hood blanket. What would cause this? Fluid level is still good. Power steering pump was replaced in September. No problems with it since then. Front cover leak stopped leaking, but only because the it's not cold outside any more, and the metal/gasket expanded to plug the leak. It was not big to begin with. I know I still need to get that fixed, though.

But why the spraying power steering fluid? I initially thought it was an oil leak from the front cover until I saw the stain on the hood blanket that was not there the day before. Oil level is unchanged.

Thanks,
Al
