99 Windstar - Error code PO 171

I have a stored code from my Windstar and I am curious what it is and how to correct it. The error code states: The fuel system for Bank one was too lean - 171. Any suggestions?

It could be 1538 also, This error code says that the intake manifold runner controll is stuck open. May be the link is broke or cable being disconnected.

What are the possible causes?
- intake air leaks (If you are idling fine then I would discount this one.)

- front oxygen sensor (check harness and connectors for breaks/dirt/etc. It is not very likely that it is oxygen sensor that is problematic unless you are logging other codes as well)
- injectors
- exhaust gas leak (Check for the sound of your exhuast. No exhaust noise would indicate a proble,...obviously)
- incorrect fuel pressure (If Acceleration and cruise performance are normal then disregard)
- fuel starvation (If Performance is normal disregard)
- mass air flow sensor

Code P0171 is triggered by either:
Fuel injection system not operating properly, or air/fuel mixture ratio compenstation faulty actual mixture ratio is too lean

Code P1538 is Intake manifold runner control stuck open.

This can be caused by IMRC vacuum being bad or there is a vacuum leak. This could also mean that the IMRC valve is sticking. Most likely due to carbon build up.
