Help- I've found a '98WindstarLX, 88k, clean, for $4000- tax. On the surface it sounds good but I don't know much about this vehicle. Any drawbacks? Especially big repairs due soon. I've got no xtra $$ faor surprises.

I've got a '98 and here's what I've found. It has the typical Ford problems with the transmission and power steering. We already had the entire steering rack and pinion (but not the pump) replaced under the extended warrantee. The transmission tends to shift hard, often jumping into place with a loud clunk, but it seems that's pretty typical for those transmissions. They seem to have corrected the head gasket problem that they had in previous years (1995 mostly). Overall, that seems to be a pretty good price for a '98 that has been maintained well.
