I have a 97 e 150 van that the vents have very little air flow from the vents in the front. I have it on high it feels like low to med speed but the blower sounds as if its full tilt. Resistor and blower motor have been replaced. Had to repair a vac line a few months ago. Well when I replaced the motor and found leaves and stuff in the outside box. So I was wanting to go through the condenser and the air duct system to make sure it's clean. This is where my problem is I have not been able to find a diagram of how this system is laid out or if their is a filter or anything in the cabin. Please anything would help me I will be starting to pull everything a part tomorrow. Thanks

There isn't a filter in the cabin. Have you checked to see if the air is blowing from the defrost vents?

Yes sir it has the same output. If this helps at high speed you barely feel the air past the steering wheel. With two vents shut you can feel a light breeze on your arm in the drivers seat. Oh it dose switch from vent to defrost and floor that part was fixed due to a mouse chewing my vac line so ran a new one. But this problem is before then.

Thank so much sir. That is exactly what I have been trying to find I suck at finding some things lol. This shows me that most of what I need to check is outside on the firewall. When I changed the fan and resistor I found a bunch of leaves and stuff. So I would assume that it may have fouled up my one of the cores. And I may need to check the plenum chamber also for any more blockage. Dose this sound about the right game plan to follow.

I went through the engin compartment side of the vent system. I was a pain in the butt. Everthing is clean now had a few leaves in it. I also checked the vac motors on top of the dash. They all work and the visible doors are moving. On max ac the door in front of the blower fan opens. Dose the fan speed control contain anything that could cause problems. I havent pulled the dash apart yet. The fan seems to run fine and full speed to me. When on max ac the air being pulled in is almost stronger than out put. Where I'm at with the air flow if I close two vents on the pass side I can feel the air leaned sitting in the drivers seat. But it feels like low/med setting in our escort. Sorry if this is too long but trying to cover all that I have done or symptoms. Thanks again for all the help so far guys. Thank you jwko for the diagrams they saved time for me.

If you're pulling in more than you're pushing through the vents, you must have a leak on the plenum someplace. One easy check. when running the fan at high speed, see of one of the dash vents has significantly less air. Not sure on the newer dashes, but older dashes used flex to get from the plenum to the vent and it's not uncommon for them to slip.

There are 4 vents on this dash. One at each end next to the doors. The other two are on either side of the radio. They have less air flow but with all of them open the one on the left of the radio closest to the driver. Has almost no air you can feel it 1" from the vent sometimes 2"s from the vent. So with this info what do yall think I need to look at. I really appreciate yalls time and help.

Well I should restate my question. If it is a suspected leak is there a common problem area on these. Also a dumb question even though the temp door/blend door is opening. Is it a possibility that it don't open all the way? Is this a possible prob. Is this pleaum hard to check/remove? Haven't removed that much of the dash or air ducts before.

It sounds like the vent next to the radio might have slipped. The face of the dash around the radio basically snaps in and out (our techs drive Ford vans, we used to pop them out all the time to add our own devices), but I can't remember if you have to pop the radio, first. If you do, slide an allen key in far enough so that you push back the clips that hold it in (there's a tool for this, but allens or any thin rod will do), and the radio will come right out. If you're not brave enough to pop the dash without further proof, turn the AC on full blast and feel the dash around the radio. If it starts to feel really cool, you're most likely leaking there. Odds are, you're going to have to pull the dash, anyway.
