94 Aerostar, V-6, Lube people said 4 1/2 quarts and manual says 5. I had 5 put in , filter changed , and now overfilled. Why? Assume I must drain some out? It always took 5 in the past .

Not sure on your vehicle, but some have two drain plugs. One high and on low. Maybe you took out the wrong one and didn't drain all the oil. Some debate whether to go by the manual or the dipstick, personally, I go by the dipstick. If it is over filled, I would drain some out. As easy as an oil change is, I always prefer to do it myself.

Manual is right, something else must be the problem like not all the oil removed at the fast lube joint. I have the tools and equipment to safely get under and drain a pint at least, just real difficult when you are 75.

Well I didn't know you are 75. Stay away from the econo lube places and go to a decent garage. I've heard to many horror stories about the low buck oil change places. By the way, if you are 75 and able to get around on the internet....... thats pretty good!

Depending on the size of V6 your Aerostar has, the 3.0 takes 4.6qts and the 4.0 takes 5.0qts.

Quick lube joints can be difficult for after service if anything goes wrong. You get what you pay for - never forget! I brought my dodge 5.9 R/T into an Oil Changers (new management has now taken over), and they filled it with 6qts of oil and charged me for the additional quart! I told them it only took 5 and the guy there arged with me in his broken english words that it took 6. So I pulled out the manual and pointed to the side of my truck at the "5.9" along the doors and told him the '4.7' engine took 6 quarts. After nearly half an hour they drained the oil and topped it up accordingly. Idiots. At least it wasn't as bad with a Mr. Lube here a couple years ago where the so called 'tech' (or kid), put the oil into the coolant reservoir on a lady's Taurus which had a coolant leak anyway, and topped up the windshield washer anti-freeze into the brake fluid reservoir! Quite the law suit that was.

Now someone tells me to remove any battery cable for 4-5 minutes before replacing and if that does not work try the solution for $23 in the link below:
