P0171/P0174 CEL Code 98 Windstar

Newby here. This is probably posted here somewhere but I am just looking for some help with the CEL code P0171 & P0174 code on a '98 Windstar 3.8L. I am no expert with repairs but am looking for some cheap options to try first before taking it in. I plan on changing the PCV hose as I have heard about that problems.

Much appreciate any help or guidance.

Try cleaning the MAF with MAF cleaner. Also read this OBD-II Trouble Code: P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1)

Here is some good detailed info on how to fix this. I did it when I had my Windstar. This after I paid a mechanic to chase the problem for a year. My van ran like crap until I did this fix. After, it ran smooth as silk until I got rid of it with over 200K miles. Good luck!

That's probably what it needs Dan. I've done that on several but I had some that just cleaning the MAF fixed it too.

Cleaning the MAF seems to have cleared up the problem as it has yet to coem back and it was probably a month or so ago I cleaned it.

Thanks for the help.

This TSB is for 99-03 Windstars. Is there a similar one for earlier models? I have a 96 with the same codes being set.

Did yoo try cleaning the MAF? It could also be a vacuum leak. The PCV hose sometimes gets loose and draws air. Also, check this. Ford P0171 & P0174 Lean Codes
