Since I bought this vehicle, it has been missing the vacuum hose from the top of the EGR valve. I don't know where the other end of a hose would go. I have searched the entire intake and throttle body, and cannot find a bare position. The Haynes manual is not helpful (most of the photos are of 3.0 liter motors. Only 2% of all Windstars were 3.0.)
This is on a 3.8 liter motor.

It runs to the EGR solenoid valve. There's a diagram on this page. Don't pay attention to the code.
P1408 code comprises of checking the egr circuit

Thanks for that diagram. It is very helpful. Could you tell me the general location for the EVR in the engine compartment? I searched for a very long time and could not find a place for the hose, so I must be overlooking the EVR.

The valve is above the rear cylinder toward the passengers side. Cylinder #1.

I was looking in the wrong place. Thanks a lot man! It was located where you said, attached to the upper intake. The hard green plastic hose had found its way to the exhaust and melted. I will extend it by attaching a rubber hose (secured with silicone and a small wire tie) to the EGR.
