Yellow ABS light on--2002 Econoline 2500 - Ford Forums

I noticed that the yellow ABS light is constantly on. The truck has about 50K miles and I am not sure when the light came on. It is now driven very few miles because of operating cost.

Are there OBD2 error codes that might help me find what is causing the light to light? Any other ideas suggesting where to start looking for the cause? I would not care that the light is on but here in Massachusetts, we have annual inspections and mine is due next month.

Foggy: Have you taken it to the local Auto Zone, or Advance Auto? They may be able to read a Code.

Or take it to the nearest Local Brake (I suggest a couple of them) shoppe, and have them give you a diagnostic check or estimate on this.

I have found that when the ABS light comes on in a Ford,,,,it has something to do with on of ABS sensor monitoring the the braking system itself.

Wanted to ask if anyone has had to replace their ABS Module and done so with a refurbished one. I know from following the forums for a while that the ABS module on the Windstar has been a major problem due to heat warping the casing and circuit board.

I just had mine inspected due to lights coming on dash and pulled code 1185.
Local repair shop wanted $1200 to install, program, new module.

Found a local shop that sends in the unit to have the circuit board resodered and guarantees for the life of the unit for around $550.00

Curious if anyone else has gone this route to fix the ABS module issue?

No, have not taken it to get the codes read. I have an All-In-One USB Scan Tool that I connected today to my laptop into the OSB2 connector in the van. I was able to read performance things, RPM etc but there were no falut codes shown.

I guess I need to look around for an ASB module and probably go on from there. I am surprised that there were no OSB fault codes.

Thanks Intravino. I purchased a similar tool a couple of years ago, called an All In One Scan Tool using the Elm chip. The latest tool uses what they call an Elm 5, whereas the tool I purchased uses an Elm 327 processor. The software for this (after hours of chasing my tail in circles) is from a company named Palmer Performance. One has to be careful here because the software is not interchangeable between the two Elm type devices. On top of that the software is pricey for a shade tree guy, in the $200 range for both packages.

I am giving thought to ordering the package anyway. I think they are the only game in town from what I can find in my searching that offers affordable tools.

Now one has to wonder, why are not more software tools available for testing ABS and air bags???

Go to a junk yard and pull the ABS module off another car ($50.00) make sure you get a traction contol box if you have it. Otherwise you can get yours rebuilt for $170 at Mercury Sable Taurus Bosch ABS Pumps Commonly Failing

I did the junk yard way and my works perfect. NO RECODING neccessary after using someone elses module. Extremely tight space to get it out without taking out the pump but it can be done!
