'01 F-250 Tranny out

I have an 01 F-250 7.3 diesel with 106k miles. Earlier this week the transmission went out. I was told by a friend of mine that there have been reports of several of these trucks with the same problem around the same mileage. Can anyone substantiate or disprove his information. Is there site or place where I could find out how many of these trucks have had this problem?

I part a lot of these trucks out and build a few... And alot of the diesel 4r100 transmissions go bad...they have a rebuild kit to make them very heavy duty,but its not cheap cost about 3500 for the tranny in HD.if you need one I have one reasonable with about 20.000 miles on it

not the heavy duty model by the way....I have a nice stock one... about 900 with shipping you can call me if you need to 727 686 3800...just tryin to help

While the 7.3 was a pretty bulletproof motor, the automatic trans that went with it was, to be polite, a piece of junk. Then, Ford fixed the automatic and replaced the 7.3 with the very troublesome 6.0.

It's not that bad a conversion job.... if you can score a ZF 6-speed manual and the associated hardware (flywheel, bellhousing, slave & master cyl, clutch pedal, reservoir, etc.) from the same vintage truck, that would be the way to go. A manual will give you about 1 mpg more on the highway, too.... and at $4 a gallon, that's not too shabby.

WWB, the 7.3 is hardly bulletproof. I blew up 2 last year in my DD. The early 6.0's did have some issues but hey it's version 1.0..

The later 05-07 6.0's are fairly reliable and yes the 5R110 is a much better trans when comparing stock to stock. I had my 4R100 built by John Wood and you couldn't kill that thing if you tried.
