02' F250 4x4 5.4L gas engine problem, shop can't fugure it out!

Its Fixed!!!!!

When I give the truck gas it flutters and wont accelerate past a couple mph and has no power. I've had it at the shop all week and they haven't been able to figure it out yet. It was running perfect then all of a sudden this happened. I changed the fuel filter which was dirty and checked some of the plugs which were good. The car starts good, it idles smooth but after a while dies, while I'm in park if i give it gas it sounds good but if i hit the gas and let off fast it flutters and is rough, if I put it in gear forward/reverse and try to accelerate it is really rough and won't go faster than a couple mph and cant get up a small hill/driveway. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: 02' F250 4x4 5.8L gas engine problem, shop can't fugure it out!

Ok, first I don't think you have a 5.8L in an '02, more likely the 5.4L triton. Unless you meant '92. But thats besides the point.

If you were able to notice visually that the fuel filter was dirty, you have a problem. Check fuel pressure at the manifold...gauges are cheap. You may have crud in your tank, in which case drop it down... and probably replace it rather than clean it. when you pull out the fuel pump check that screen. If the internal fuel pump filter screen fell off, that too could be you problem. After all that, go to a maintenance shop and have them do a "pressurized" fuel system cleaning, not just a bottle of stuff put into your tank. The "pressurized" will blast the concentrated cleanser through the injection system.

Thanks for the reply. I will suggest all those ideas to the mechanic.

Not sure the mechanic will value the input. They tend to like to figure it out without any help. But I would like to clarify the difference between a dirty fuel filter and a rusted one though...

Dirty= on the inside of the fuel line connection= problems

Rusted= on the outside=replace anyways

They got it running! They replaced the main fuse box ( fried ) the gem module, and some sensors. It runs perfect. The bad fuse box was giving them all kinds of false reading like 6 transmission codes and 10 other ones that sent them on a wild goose hunt. Ford said the fuse box having to be replaced is common on these trucks that get a lot of use ( dirt ) on them.
