"03" 150 oil loss

My 2003, F-150 has 89,000 on it, every 3000 I do an oil change. The problem I have when it got to 50,000 miles on it I started noticing that when it came time for the oil change the dipstick would show it was 1 1/2 quarts low on oil. I have no oil leaks nor does it smoke. 9000 miles ago I noticed a creamy white substance on the inside of the oil filler cap, what is going on with this?

The creamy white substance is simply condensation and is not a blown gasket like some people believe. We get customers asking this alot.

Do you change the oil or pay someone? That truck takes 6 1/2 quarts of oil if it's a 4.6L or 5.4L and the 4.2L takes 7 quarts.

In the owner's manual it states that my 4.6 requires 6 quarts. I do my own oil changes 10w-30 with Motorcraft oil filter.

5W20 is the recommended oil for the Triton engine, but 10W30 really should not hurt a high mileage engine.

If there are no leaks and no smoke, then maybe try a different oil.
