My 03 f250 v10 dies everytime I put the truck in reverse. I can restart the truck in park and put it into drive to move foward with no problems but as soon as I put it in reverse the motor dies. Does anyone have any suggestions??
No it will not roll in reverse, the motor starts up fine but as soon as you put in reverse it kills the motor. No it does not show a fault code. The other night when the truck was acting up the overdrive light was flashing, is this part of the problem, don't know?? I will check the wiring to the reverse lights and see if maybe a wire is rubbing against metal.
The flashing overdrive light indicates a code. Have it checked. It should give you some idea. Could be wires shorting ??? maybe? or the reverse spragg or clutch pack seized. If that is the case you need a new transmission. Getting stuck or rolling forward and putting it into reverse or rolling in reverse and putting it into drive without a complete stop will also do that. That engine has enough torque to cause that kind of damage. Good luck.
I know your going to think im crazy but i had the same exact problem with my f250 it would die every time i put it in reverse i was told to check the transmition fluid level low and behold it did not rgister on the dipstick i put transmition fluid and that solved my problem hope this helps
