06 F150 4.6l charging issues

Need some help fellas,

I recently replaced my battery and alternator due to the battery having a dead cell and my alternator burned up. Since then I am still having problems, at high rpm I lose charging all together it seems, not until I get home and let it idle does it seem to charge.

the only thing I think I need to replace is the fusible links between battery and alternator. Is there anyway to just make one with an in line fuse? Or am I gonna need to just go to dealership for the link?

Also the battery is an optima yellow top and the alternator is a reman from OReillys

Thats always a possibility, but everytime I check the volts I get something different, last night I tested it and I wad getting 12.5 off the alternator but was dropping down to 11.9 at the battery

YOu can buy fused wire at mos automotive stores. I bought some around 20 years ago and lost it long before I used it up.

Re: 06 F150 4.6l charging issues

Hey Homer your looking at the problem.
With a battery not charged up the voltage should be in the 15 volt range with the motor running then taper down to about 14.2 after it recharges..
The battery gets charged when the regulator senses the difference between the battery voltage and regulator's internal reference.
Never replace an alternator before first putting a charge in the battery.
If you don't it runs the alternator wide open and can burn it out.
Either the fuse/link is open from the last fault or the new alternator is toast.
When you have such a major issue it has to be all checked out or problems linger.
Do it once do it right.
Good luck.

Update

I went ahead and warrantied my battery and alternator today, same problem occurring...

looks like the 2 wires going to the pcm have gone bad or the pcm is going bad...,
