hey all, having trouble with my 2006 F250 5.4L. i was driving home from a firends place this morning, and the truck was feeling really boggy and didnt make much power, then it sounded like a diesel running, then it really lost all power and died on me. Now it wont start. I have beenout of work for the last month and dont have the cash to go to a garage, so wanted to see what it might be so i can fix it myself. Help would be greatly appreciated.

yup, sure did. Just changed oil and filter last weekend with motorcraft oil and filter.

Is the engine turning over ok.? From what you say sounds like it lost oil pressure for whatever reason .

If engine not turning over , could be seized caused by either oil pump failure or blockage at pick up tube / filter .

Sounds like it could be a ignition problem, cause you say it didn't have much power and it felt bogged down, then died, and now it won't start.

Maybe check the wire's to see if one or more got damaged, or even check your spark plugs depending on miliage?

Could also be a fuel issue. Might check the fuel filter.

Does it crank over normal assuming the battery is charged up so it would.
If yes it's not seized.
Could have overheated, lost oil pressure or ran out of fuel for some reason.
What you heard was ignition ping/knock due to heavey resistance to rotation or lack of fuel.
To check for fuel, put pressure gage on fuel rail. Turn on igniton to run a few time to see if the pump runs and builds pressure.
Is the cooling system still full?
The no start is likely not from loss of oil pressure.
Check for any code set by using a scanner for the CAN system not the older OBDII.
Turn on the igntion and see if codes are read out.

hey, thanx for the responses. I plugged in a code reader, but it was the OBDII, didnt know about the CAN reader, does it make a difference?

anyways, got a pikle of codes, p0011, p0012,p0022, p0171, p0174, p0345, p0420, p2197, p0340, p0430. the truck has 225 000km on it. Would the cam pos. sensor codes be from worm timiing chains, or sprokets? I have a decent understanding of how engines work, just having a hard time matching the codes to the physical promblem.

All the wires to the coils are fine, there is fuel pressure, the coils will need to be replaced as there is misfire on cylinder 5 and 6. I replaced the spark plugs about 15 000km ago, so i imagine they are ok still.
