My 06 F350 diesel was running fine then all of a sudden it started losing power, shifting rough and top speed of 40km/h. I put conditioner in and let it idle for about 1.5 hrs. Went to rev up the engine and it died and now will not start. Thinking maybe dirty fuel filter?? Any suggestions?

Most likely the egr is stuck. you need to take to a dealership to get it fixed. also don't let the 6.0 idle to long it is hard on the egr system. also make sure you use good quality fuel, change fuel filters every 15k and change oil every 5,000. Most of the problems we see are from lack of services, not saying you don't do those things but you can't let this engine idle for 1.5 hours.

Those symptoms also sound a lot like water in the fuel. Two questions....

Did you get a "water in fuel" light that you didn't notice (or maybe that light is burned out).

Did you remove the plug on the water separator and check to see if you got water or fuel out?

Also, engine could be dusted, if air intake/filter allows dirt in over a period of time, turbo will chip sending small metal particles into engine, which will cause you to lose power,lower your mpgs, and cost alot of $. I just spent $10,000 on the exact problem on my 03, f350, 7.3. I had the same syptoms prior to the diagnostic. Hope for the best.
