My second owner '65 F-100 had 212,000 documented miles on it before the original 240-6 engine was replaced by a newly rebuilt 300-6. The 240 was still running fine but using a quart of oil about every 600 miles, replaced spark plugs frequently. I had the 300-6 balanced during the rebuild process.
what are your plans for the 240-6? is it worth anything? i have the 6 from my 63 that i dont know what i'm gonna do with. i will probably put it to one side and let it collect dust.
Mark,
The 240-6 as is, is a pretty good engine. Of course, a used one that runs good but uses a little oil should be rebuilt or installed into a truck that someone can't afford a rebuild right now but wants dependable transportation. I've been driving the 240-6 engine since November of 1998. Changed the oil every 2500 miles and carried a couple spare quarts with me if I was planning a trip. I'd like to sell or trade it to someone close. Core charges around here for a 240/300 engines is about $250.00 at a local rebuild shop. I will sell it for $150.00 or trade for anything someone may have that I can use.
