1988 F-150 iginiton problem

Ok so I wrecked my F-150 hitting a telephone poll. Now on impact it was still running. So I shut it off and about 2 or so more mins later I turned it over and it started. It was sitting at the towing place for a week or 2. We get it back and got new parts on it (bumper, hood, drivers side fender, inner fender) Now it won't turn over unless you turn the key to run, and contact both posts of the solenoid using a screwdriver. Trying the key to start it won't, when all the over nothing happens just the brake light on and what not. My question is what is it? My step dad's step dad says it is the starter but as soon as you contact both post it turns over and starts.

Re: 1988 F-150 iginiton problem

Does everything else have power to it? (radio, dome light ect.) If so, I would lean toward a bad starter solenoid as well. Also I have had a solenoid fail because where it was grounded was all rusted. I took it off and wire brushed it clean and worked fine ever since.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies but I fixed it back in January. It was the 4 wires for the neutral safety switch, the towing company must have pinched them with the cable for the winch.
