1992 F-150 Inline 6 - Operating Temp

I have a 92 F-150 inline 6. Although everything seems to run correctly in reference to the cooling system, I find that the temperature guage on the dash stays very far to the left. I get good heating.

But I am concerned if I should be operating at a higher temperature. The guage does not tell me what the temperature is and I have no idea the type thermostat that is installed.

I am looking for a recommendation of what type thermostat to consider installing. I assume that there are different temperature ranges available. I am also looking for a way of determining what temperature I am currently operating at.

The only way to know what the temp is would be with a thermometer. The thermostat I'd recommend is a 190 deg. Your gauge or sending unit may be wrong too.
