1995 F-250 headlights

Hey -

I am both a new forum member and a new F-250 owner. So far I really like the truck especially with the 7.3 diesel engine, however I do have one question. My headlights come on as soon as I turn the ignition key on and I am wondering if that is correct for this truck or not? None of the dash lights come on with them and it is the front headlights themselves and nothing else. Everything else comes on perfectly when you pull the light switch on. My concern is that this can be draining to the battery when I am cranking the engine. Bottom line, is this correct and if it is not, does anyone have any ideas on what a previous owner may have done to create this situation?

Thanks in advance,

David

Re: 1995 F-250 headlights

I have had many fords especially around those years(trucks)......it seems like your multifunction column switch is the culprit, none of these trucks diesel or not have daytime running lights yet....i have a wiring/troubleshooting diagram i can email you or fax you.....oh yea, do the headlights stay on during cranking, because daytime running lights dont, they go off for the few secs during cranking. its possible the last owner wired them up direct to ignition, ive seen that before.
please feel free to email me for my number...

Re: 1995 F-250 headlights

This post may be a bit late, but I'm in Canada and have the same truck. As others have posted, you definitely have DRL. Your truck may have been built for sale in Canada, as DRL have been required here since the early nineties. The lights come on when the ignition is "on", but they go out during starting and when the parking brake is engaged. The module that controls DRL is located just below-and-inboard of the left headlamp. It's mounted to the sheet metal next to the radiator. I hope you enjoy the truck--just got mine back from the bodyshop this morning (extreme makeover--rust removal and full paint!!). It's good for another thirteen years.
