Yesterday I went to the junkyard and found a f-150 that had a speedometer with a tachometer on it. The cluster for a standard transmission vehicle. I saw a YouTube video and it showed that it's a perfect swap out. Everything works on the new cluster but the check engine light is on, went to have the codes read and there were no codes, pulled off the battery terminals to reset and it's still on. Any suggestions?

I'm wondering if you got a wire crossed, the check engine is supposed to come off the data plug.

And now I think my alternator is shot, good day so far. I have a dura last gold battery and I just bought it. My truck is having a really hard time starting. I'm at work and cannot try anything to see what it is, I'll just try and jump it and get to autozone I make sure. Is a 1999 ford windstars alternator interchangeable? They look really close. I am thinking the check engine light comes on because there is no battery light on the new cluster

Part numbers are different for the two different alternators, that's all I can tell you. Generally alternators that look alike but have different part numbers, they have different amp capacities.

Well now my truck is broke down. I pushed it to the side of the road, ripped out the alternator and went to autozone, it tested fine. Bought a new one anyway. Put it in jumped it, and the battery guage just went down. So we jumped it drove to the nearest parking lot and took the battery and alternator back. Charged the battery at autozone for an hour and put the old alternator on.
Started up fine, got halfway home and shut off out of nowhere, pulled over, kept trying to start, nothing. It turned over and never fired. Wait, once it did and ran for a few seconds like 10 seconds and shut off again. Something is draining my battery really bad.

You may have stated this, but have you tested your coil?
